I've conducted a brief study of in-game video bravado, and I have found, like the esteemed Colonel's chicken, it comes in a few distinct varieties:

Wipeout Variety #1: Look What I Can Do!
Crispy's Jason McMaster must really hate that gas station. He keeps blowing it up. (My favorite part is the in-game music: Sister Christian, oh the time has come ... for destruction.)




Wipeout Variety #2: Would You Like a Side of Asphalt With That Pavement You're Eating?
You don't need a motor vehicle to wipe out! This guy takes air off the roof of a building. The No Skateboarding signs at the mall are there for a reason.




Wipeout Variety #3: The Classic Car Chase
This guy is on the run. I think he is going for a reenactment of "The Blues Brothers."




Wipeout Variety #4: The Shred-a-thon
A lot of wipeout videos are compilations of several vehicular mishaps that feel like they were pulled from the Speed channel or MTV. This one is all about the music, interpreted through car-crashes.




Wipeout Variety #5: The Thrill Seeker
In this video, a plane comes out of nowhere and crashes into a tank.




How to Enter

1. Between now and Oct. 25, submit your best videos of in-game wipeouts. Make or find a schadenfreude-filled video and post it to YouTube (or grab the YouTube link).

2. If you haven't already, register for a Crispy Gamer account and go to the World's Greatest Wipeout Entry Thread in the Crispy Gamer forums.

3. Post your video from YouTube into the forum thread using the following code:

[youtube]your video url[/youtube]

It's that easy.

We'll narrow it down to three finalists, and then we'll turn them over to the users from Oct. 25-28 to pick the Grand Prize winner! Godspeed, thrill seekers!

One of the goals of our redesign is to give readers more ways to connect with Crispy's Game Trust writers and with each other. To this end, on June 1, we're giving all of you a more robust profile with some fun enhancements.

 

Say you read a really smart comment by a fellow user and wonder what else they're up to on Crispy. Soon, you will be able to click through to their profile page and see all of their recent activity in the community and comments on articles.

 

In addition, you will have the ability to set a status message, which you can update as often as you'd like. This message will appear along with your username and avatar anywhere you comment on Crispy.

 

The Game Trust bio pages are also getting a major upgrade, to help you find writers with whom you identify and connect with them. Their bio, community profile, and contributions listing all will be rolled up into one, making it easier to read their most recent articles, blog posts, comments, status and more.

 

But June 1 is still a few days away, and we're an eager lot. To prepare you for the new Crispy, some members of the Game Trust have generously offered up their statuses in advance. What's up with you? Post your status in the comments so we can all get to know one another better.

Since October 2007, I've been working behind the scenes with Editor-in-Chief John Keefer and our marvelously talented writers and Web developers to help bring this site into being. We've been live for over a year, now, and it’s about time I introduced myself.

Hi, I’m Elise.

We are all very thrilled that Crispy has become the home for entertaining and meaningful game criticism and a community of very smart, funny readers. When we started building this thing, we could not have predicted all that it would become. You are all the reason Crispy Gamer is succeeding, and I want to thank you each personally.

So, why haven't I introduced myself before? We've been really frickin' busy!

On June 1, Crispy Gamer is going to get even Crispier. This means a new look and feel, improved navigation and more ways to connect with the Game Trust and other readers.

 

Many of you have made Crispy Gamer your home over the course of the past year or more, so let's call this a renovation. We're knocking out some walls to give it an airier feel. We're arranging all your stuff so you can actually find what you're looking for, for crying out loud. We're making it more inviting for you to drop by and have a conversation. And every member of the Game Trust gets their own room. (To brutalize this metaphor, we're keeping the toilets.)
